This fall, Ms. Bennett wrote a grant on www.donorschoose.org to fund a book study on Dr. Mortenson's Three Cups of Tea. The grant totaled over $800. Our grant was fully funded and our books have already arrived! The students are very eager to learn about this part of the world and to study the story of how Mortenson used schools to provide these young people with an opportunity for a better life. Our furthest donation came from Norway, and our largest came from a Sonic in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In all, we had 13 donors. We love and say thank you to them all!

Planting Our Seeds
At the beginning of the school year, our classes practiced writing techniques and began filling their writer's notebooks with many different ideas. A few weeks ago, we chose one of these short writings to be our "seed piece." We discussed how as a class, we would grow these pieces into long, beautiful stories that were ready to be published in our class book, the same way that one would love and nurture a seed into a big, beautiful plant. To help remind us why we are working so hard as we write each day, we each planted a seed into our own, personally decorated "flower pots." It is our hope that as our stories develop, we will watch our plants develop and grow.
